Paul Scoones

Paul Scoones is a freelance writer and researcher with a specialist interest in the long-running BBC television programme Doctor Who.

He is the author of The Comic Strip Companion, a series of guide books covering the history of Doctor Who in comic strips. The first volume covering 1964-1979 was published in 2012. The second volume covering 1979-1990 is currently in preparation.

Paul has written production information text subtitles for eight Doctor Who DVDs for BBC Worldwide.

He founded and edited the fanzine journal Time Space Visualiser (TSV). Between 1987 and 2005 he produced than fifty regular issues and various specials. TSV was a recipient  of the Sir Julius Vogel Award and the New Zealand National Science Fiction Award.

His writing has appeared in periodicals including Doctor Who MagazineIn-Vision and Nothing at the End of the Lane; and books including Behind the SofaThe Handbook and Talkback.

He has been interviewed on BBC Radio 4, Radio Live, Prime TV, and appears on the special features of several Doctor Who DVDs.

In 1999 Paul was involved in the discovery of a lost 16mm film print of The Lion (episode 1 of The Crusade). He negotiated and arranged its safe return to the BBC.

He has worked as a website content editor for leading book and appliance retail brands, managed customer service teams for several businesses, and run an online DVD and books store. He currently assists his wife Rochelle with the running of Retrospace, a science fiction collectibles shop based in Takapuna, Auckland.

Paul's qualifications include a BA in History from the University of Auckland and a Diploma of Teaching.

He was born in London, England but has lived most of his life in Auckland, New Zealand.
